This was a pretty good book it took me a little bit to get into the story. But then I did not want to stop. I can't wait to read book two. I would recommend this book.Product details

In this first book, THE LAST FIELD OF HONOR by J.L.Ficks, he has introduced many more heroes and of course, my favorite, villains. Some are good and some are evil, as you discover as you read.
For ages, two Elvish groups have been living with the horror of no longer being a group. That may end for ever.Only the Manarian Codes of War are keeping both groups alive. War, past and present carries a lot of deep anger, rage, hate and revenge. The death toll of these two groups eventually comes to the point that no one knows what or why they are at odds with each other. Is it something big and important or something trivial?
Elves are a hardy group, out living every other race. Their lives go on at a slower rate than humans. Here the author's two groups of Elves are the Jui-Rae of the golden forests, led by King-Kaling and Dark Elves who reign from the black forests of Jui-Sae, led by General Sien.
The author has written a story of sadness. We have two groups on the brink of never being again, Everyone if blaming everyone else for the deaths and the loyalty and honor being destroyed. This war has been going on for nearly two thousand years. Will the two groups find a truce? Will they unite forces and become one? You can't get bored with this book. There is action galore and never a dull moment. The author did a wonderful job with describing the settings and the characters. He has also included several maps so you can follow along the trail. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves the fantasy of Elves, kingdoms and a place to get away from everyday worries. You can travel the Kingdoms with the Elves and become friends or enemies of some. It's a getaway to another world, another time and new characters to unite with. Everyone needs that getaway and Mr. Ficks has given that to us with Chronicle of coven series. Grab a copy at your favorite book store and get started leaving the hum drum away.

Sorry but I cannot agree with the other reviewers about this book. In my opinion this book jumped from one battle to another to the point that I did not know who was fighting whom. The light elves versus the dark elves with the light elves seeming to always come out the winner, sending the dark elves running. It seems until toward the end of the book that the dark elves never face their foe in the open & instead fight unfairly & cowardly in my opinion as a unseen but even as a unseen the light still seems to be able to best them, how can you defeat someone you cannot see? Oh I forgot about the flare arrows that make the invisible visible wouldn't the dark elves after battling the light elves for centuries know by now that they have these arrows & just fight them face to face? The best battle scene was at the end with the 2 generals fighting almost to the death & even then the dark elf is the one who runs off and victory is to the light elves. Why is a dark elf so concerned about the fate of the light elves after they have destroyed several dark elf villages?
This guy is great and this is parts of a greater story, the only bad part is I have been waiting and waiting and nothing else has come forward.
